Mantra
for Being Present: Dharti Hai
by Ramdesh Kaur | May 9, 2012extrait de Spirit Voyage
There are mantras to support us in almost every aspect of our lives, and being present is no
exception. Today’s world makes being present a challenge. We’re on computers,
watching TV, flipping through Facebook, and on our phones all day long. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with
how technology affects our lives, but we can forget that being present means
more than watching our Twitter feed.
It means being present to the sensations that
are occurring within our bodies, being present to our breath, and being present
to the now moment. Mantras allow us to tap into an energy that supports us in a particular
way. They work on a very subtle and yet perceptible energetic
frequency. The mantra Dharti Hai works to help us be present not because someone like me says so, but
because when we are present and use it, we can feel it to be so.
Also called the Isht Sodhanna Mantra, this Kundalini mantra given by Yogi Bhajan connects the Earth and the vastness of the ether and projects it from
the heart. The meaning is part of how this works. The full mantra in
Gurmukhi is Dharti Hai, Akash Hai,
Guru Ram Das Hai. Dharti Hai means “the
earth is!” Akash hai means “the heavens are”! It’s a calling to witness,
right here and right now, the presence of the divine around us. On the physical
plane, manifestation is! On the etheric plane, manifestation is!
The last line, “Guru Ram Das Hai” means that
Guru Ram Das is, too. Guru Ram Das represents the heart energy made
manifest into the world. It projects straight out from the heart.
So first you call upon the earth, then the heavens, and the energy meets and
manifests through your heart. This mantra also calls on your highest
spirit, keeps you humble and effective on your new ventures, and attracts
opportunities for prosperity. Why? Because all of that is governed
by the heart and your ability to channel energy through it.
The heart chakra is a balance point. It is the place of balance between the lower and upper chakras, just as the energy of Guru Ram Das can serve as a channel between the
energy of the lower and higher planes. This is a mystical and powerful
mantra, and the symbolism could be explained in great detail and at
length. The point of any of these mantras is to do them. To sing
them and to let them sing you.
Try it out. When you are busy and frazzled, calm
yourself for a few minutes and stay present to the chant, “Dharti Hai, Akash
Hai, Guru Ram Das Hai”. The energy is so grounding and powerful, it will
pull you straight into your heart center
